We are a family from Modena with a vocation: Balsamic vinegar

"Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, as we like it" is the phrase we chose to tell our story. A story that, every time you taste our Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, becomes yours.

Our family

Monari Federzoni is much more than a brand, it is our family name: four generations of love and passion for Balsamic Vinegar of Modena.Since Elena Monari began to sell balsamic vinegar in 1912, from her small family production in Modena, we have always guarded our original recipes like a precious treasure, to pass down along with the barrels from our “acetaia”, balsamic vinegar cellar.

Today, our family leads one of the main manufacturing groups in the world for the production of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena. A group led by Sabrina Monari for over 30 years and certified Women-Owned by WEConnect International since 2024 that exports to over 60 countries, with 70 employees who work every day to guarantee quality and sustainability throughout the supply chain, from the vineyard to your dish.

Our name is part of the history of Modena, and an institution in the world of balsamic vinegar of Modena. We have the largest balsamic vinegar aging site in wooden barrels in the region, and a tradition of excellence that we keep going with pride, in order to offer you every time you taste it authentic, original, intense, delicious balsamic vinegar, just as we like it.

Our home

Monari Federzoni was established in 1912 in a “osteria con bottega”, a small family restaurant with annex shop in the centre of Modena, and since then, we have never left our local area. The Modena area is a region full of history, with great culinary tradition, famous all over the world for our love of the good life and good food.

A fertile land that grows vine varieties that create exceptional grape must: Lambrusco, Trebbiano, Ancellotta, Albana, Sangiovese, Fortana and Montuni. These varieties are perfect for the river Po Valley, where winters are cold and bitter, and summers long and hot. An ideal climate for balsamic vinegar, which finds optimal conditions to age, concentrate and reach the right level of density and the perfect sweet and sour taste.

To meet continuously growing demand, we moved our production just outside Modena in the '80s, to the countryside of Solara di Bomporto. More than 100 hectares of our own vineyards surround our vinegar factory, where over 5000 barrels are stored, the largest site for the ageing of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena in wood in the World.

And since we have always been connected to Modena and its historical centre, we have also been back in the heart of the city since 2022. In the historical Albinelli Market, we have opened a special space dedicated to tasting our products, and a restaurant, Balsamico e Cucina, where you can enjoy traditional dishes reinterpreted and enriched by our balsamic vinegar.
